I've always been a fan of cocktails with fresh herbs and basil is one of my favorites.

Oh basil,  we love you! 

Basil is one of those kitchen herbs that is used to give dishes a unique flavor. Whether you use it fresh or as an extract, basil can add great flavor to any dish!

Basil has a wide variety of uses and characteristics that make it versatile in the kitchen. Here are three ways to use basil in your slow living kitchen!

Want to know how to preserve basil? Here are three quick ways.

01 Freezing: Once blanched, basil can be frozen in water, olive oil or pesto.

02 Dehydrating: Can be accomplished in an electric dehydrator or an oven set at the lowest temperature.

03 Air-drying: The leaves will become brittle and break easily when they're done.

Basil Gimlet with Basil infused Vodka

– 1 ounce fresh lime juice – 1 ounce simple syrup – 5–6 fresh basil leaves – 2 ounces of basil infused vodka

Ingredients

Step 1

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the infused vodka, lime juice, and simple syrup.

Shake well and strain into a chilled glass filled with fresh ice.

1. Garnish with a basil leaf and serve immediately.
