Take a sandwich from good to great is simple according to Reddit users

The sandwich is the ultimate comfort food. It's portable, convenient, and so easy to make. But just like any other dish, there are so many ways you can go wrong. From the bread to the cheese to the veggies, there are plenty of ways for your sandwich to be bland.

That's when you need ideas to take your sandwich from zero to hero.

Recently, Redditor "arisal3," asked in the/r/AskReddit subreddit: "What makes a sandwich go from boring to amazing? Fellow Reddit users shared tips to take your sandwich from boring to extraordinary. Here are 5 of our favorites.

Not treating your veggies like the VIPs they are

If you're adding veggies to your sandwich, give them the respect they deserve by roasting, pickling, marinating, or seasoning them. The best part about this is that it's easy!

If you have a cast iron skillet, you can roast veggies in it! Just toss some olive oil on them, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and roast until browned. The same goes for marinating them — add some vinegar and soy sauce to whatever veggies you want to use (I like broccoli) and let them sit in the fridge overnight.

    Skimping on bread

You are skipping out on fresh, quality bread. A great sandwich is all about the ingredients' quality, which starts with the bread. Get the most out of your sandwich by using fresh-baked bread (or buying a loaf from your local bakery).

    Keeping sandwiches dry & unseasoned

Condiments like mayo, mustard, ketchup, and BBQ sauce are essential when making sandwiches! They add moisture and flavor to your sandwich that you can't get by just putting meat on bread (unless it's bacon). Make sure that every bite has some sauce or spread so that every taste is delicious and not dry.

    Not having enough pep

When you make your next sandwich, bring out all the stops by adding some oven-roasted or pickled peppers for an extra bite. One user shared that peppers seem to perk up a sandwich no matter what's between the bread already. Add some black pepper at the end, even if you're not into heat.

    Not getting toasted

A great sandwich requires only the proper ingredients and perfect proportions. Still, toasting is another often overlooked factor that can turn an average meal into a truly memorable one.

Toasting your bread in the oven until it's just barely starting to brown will bring out the flavors in your bread and give your sandwich a warm and crispy texture that goes so well with any toppings. It's an easy step that takes almost no time but can make all the difference in how tasty your sandwich ends up. So save yourself from soggy sandwiches—and don't skimp on the toast!
