Why this recipe works
The easy strawberry lemonade recipe with honey is the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. A refreshing and perfect drink for a hot summer day.
It's a simple recipe that easily can be made entirely from scratch, but if you don't have enough fresh lemons to make homemade lemonade, you can. This drink is great for parties because it can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator until you want to serve it.
Ingredients
It's time to make some honey strawberry lemonade! For best results, pick up fresh ingredients for a refreshing summer drink. Here's what you'll need
Honey Strawberry Syrup
This is not a simple syrup but a honey ferment, where the ingredients sit together for a few days at room temperature.
- Raw Honey:
- Fresh strawberries. Make sure to select ripe strawberries. The best way to make your own strawberry lemonade at home is with fresh fruit. Fresh berries work best because they have more flavor than frozen berries and won't water down your drink as much as using frozen fruit would. If you don't have fresh strawberries, try using frozen strawberries instead. They work just fine!
- Fresh lemons + lemon juice: The juice from 1 lemon
- Lemonade: homemade lemonade is great to make from scratch, but if you happen to be in a hurry (or don't have a bunch of lemons), pre-made lemonade is a-ok by me.
- Sugar: You can easily adjust the sweetness by adding more or less honey, depending on your preference. I've used white sugar, but feel free to swap in for maple syrup, agave nectar, or sweetener of choice.
Instructions
Start with one cup of strawberries. Make sure they are as ripe as possible—the riper they are, the more delicious this drink will be when it's done!
Make your strawberry honey syrup a few days ahead of time.
- Wash the berries thoroughly under cold running water and cut off their stems
- Add berries and top with one cup of honey to a container with a lid. Cover with lid and leave it at room temperature for 2-4 days. Check out the full recipe for honey fermented strawberries details.
Once the syrup is ready, to a large pitcher, add 1 cup of sliced strawberries, lemon slices lemon juice, and sugar
Muddle the ingredients until thoroughly combined and top with lemonade.
Stir well and add ice cubes if desired
Pour into glasses over ice and add sugar before serving if you'd like to sweeten your drink!
Variations and substitutions
This drink recipe makes four servings, so you can enjoy this delicious drink for a crowd. You can make a double batch easily, and once you have the strawberry syrup, the rest of the ingredients come together easily.
- Make this into a refreshing summer cocktail! Add in some white wine.
- Swap in lemonade for some sweet tea!
- You can substitute the honey for other herbs, like mint or rosemary.
- Feel free to add whatever kind of fruit you have on hand. You can also use another berry, such as raspberries or blueberries.
- Swap it with another fruit juice you prefer, like orange juice!
- If you don't have lemons on hand but still want to use citrus in your lemonade, feel free to substitute it with limes—the result will still be delicious!
Serving Suggestions
- Serve this refreshing drink in a glass with ice. Garnish with sliced strawberries
- You can also serve this drink over ice with a slice of lemon or lime. You can even make it into a slushie by blending the ingredients in a blender!
